Alina (the mama in these lovely photos) has always been an inspiration to me. You see, we grew up three houses down from each other in Texas. I was best friends with her little sis, Heather. Alina was the super cool, artsy older sister. There was also older sister, Crystal, who was equally as cool.:)She and Crystal probably don’t know this, but many times after playing at their house, I’d go home and try to copy their awesome bubble letters and rainbow drawings lol, so I could be, you know, super cool like them. My hubby and I actually just moved back to that same street two weeks ago, and I often think about all of the fun times I had in that house.:)Super random side note…the people who live in that house now were throwing, what I thought was an engagement party, so I strolled down there to find out when their wedding was to offer my services. I found out the wedding was the day after the party–the party was actually their rehearsal dinner. 😛 But, hey, never hurts to ask! I digress…enjoy some lovely photos from their session. Which, by the way, we were able to get 122 awesome shots in less than 30 minutes. We were hustlin!

I had the amazing opportunity to photograph Alina’s maternity/family pictures in San Francisco. We had a blast playing on the beach and capturing candid (& a few posed) moments along the way. Afterwards, we celebrated the upcoming arrival of baby Bodhi Jae at their home in Corte Madera at a backyard baby shower. Alina’s sisters and family created beautiful handmade decorations which added a really special touch.  It was the PERFECT day, and this family sure is loved.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be back in town in time to shoot Bodhi’s home birth in July! Yep, that’s RIGHT…we are now offering birth photography! This is a non-intrusive shooting style where I’ll be respectfully and candidly capturing the miracle of birth! I’m SO excited to have two birth sessions on my 2015 calendar and looking forward to adding more! If you or someone you know is having a baby soon, I’d love to chat about capturing their baby’s birth story.

Alina’s brother and sister made almost all of the food from scratch. It was DELISH!

At the end of the shower we all participated in a Mother’s Blessing for Alina. We all sat in a circle, did some deep breathing and meditating, and said well wishes (in 7 words or less) into the circle for Bodhi. Then, we each put on a thread bracelet symbolizing how we are all connected to Alina and baby. Once Bodhi is on her way, we will cut our bracelets symbolizing the release of baby from the womb. The last part of the Mother’s Blessing was creating the birth altar. Each of us collected a piece of nature (shell, flower, wood, etc). These items will be placed on a birth altar close to Alina as she’s in labor to draw strength and peace. Pretty cool stuff!
